Rocktown is a truly unique area located just outside of Lafayette
(pronounced luh-FAY-yet down here), GA; less than an hour from
Chattanooga, TN. With more than a lifetime of bouldering situated a
mere 30 minute hike from public camping it is quickly becoming a mecca
for climbers from all over the country.
Living up to it's name,
it boasts more boulders than any other open-access area in the
southeast. Furthermore, the bouldering areas are not as dense with
rock as LRC and HP40, so there are often more lines per boulder as all
sides are often exposed.
Rocktown's claim to fame however, are
it's roofs. The geography of the land, the soft sandstone rocks and
years of erosion have created hundreds of featured roofs and
overhangs. Access is free and open almost year round, with the
exception of occasional population control organized hunts. A decent
topo is available from drtopo.com or you can download their topo from
this site. An updated topo is in the works, but probably a full year
or more away.
